If there are typos I apologize, its a lot to write on a phone. Encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so none of you may be hardened by sins deceitfulness. (Hebrews 3:13) In the beginning chapters of Hebrews, it talks about God speaking to our ancestors through His prophets. But it continues to say, .. in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son.. (Hebrews 1:2 NIV) It continues in verse three saying that He (His Son) .. is the Radiance of Gods glory and the exact representation of His being.. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in Heaven. In doing so he became as much superior to the angels as the name He inherited is. Jesus was made lower than the angels for time so that he could save us from the choke hold Satan had on us. Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants. For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. (Hebrews 2:14-18 NIV) I was reading through Hebrews and something caught my eye. I kept seeing the quote, Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion. Specifically the word Today. The rebellion is referring to the people Moses led out of Egypt. It says that they tested and tried God for forty years even when they saw how he brought them out of slavery and provided for them in the wilderness. He was angry with their generation, because their hearts constantly went astray and his anger he made an Oath, They shall never enter my rest.(Hebrews 3:11 NIV) We see that the reason they could not enter, His rest, was because of their unbelief. But the promise still stands, or there would have been no reason to make such an oath. Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed. Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said, “So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ” And yet his works have been finished since the creation of the world. (Hebrews 4:1-3 NIV) For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: “On the seventh day God rested from all his works.” And again in the passage above he says, “They shall never enter my rest.”(Hebrews 4:4-5 NIV) Hebrews 4:6 gets to what I wanted to show you, the word Today. Therefore since it still remains for some to enter that rest, and since those who formerly had the good news proclaimed to them did not go in because of their disobedience, God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This he did when a long time later he spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.” For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience. For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (Hebrews 4:6-16 NIV)
