If you asked most people from 30 years ago what this is, they would probably respond with a remark about graffiti. But Bunbury has willingly embraced a new culture of street art, which is breathing vibrant colours and culture into our city. Bunbury is slowly being transformed by the hands of highly skilled professional artists both locally, Australian and International talent. We caught up with Jordan from Maker + Co, one of the organisers of this mammoth undertaking, to get the real story behind it all. Jordan explained that Andrew Frazer, the brainchild of the venture, had a vision to transform the citys urban landscape, something that Jordan and a few other key locals shared. It was all about injecting some life into the city, to try and bring people out to experience art in an open forum, and more importantly, about aesthetically and culturally developing where we live to inspire change at every level. Jordan also asked us to acknowledge that, without the many sponsors, this wouldnt be possible, and although he didnt want to publicize it, a reasonable amount of money was also put fourth by some of the key organisers, for which all of Bunbury is very grateful for. We talked to Jordan about some of the talent involved, as we noted there were a few works going up that werent on the map, after Bunbury insight spoke with a Perth local, William, who was painting the blue masterpiece on the wall of Bianco Gourmet Pizza Cafe - Bunbury. Jordan explained that this was the beauty of doing something creative, because it had already started to inspire change, which is what the organisers had hoped this would achieve. Bunbury insight even gave painting our town a bit of colour with two images, although we are no where near as skilled with photoshop, as these world class artists are with real paint, and Banksy fans are probably jumping out of their skin with our mutilation of one of his originals, photoshopped onto a blank wall on Wittenoom st. And walking around the city, it isnt hard to start to visualize how our city would be transformed completely if we could keep this trend going indefinitely, as there are so many bleak brick and rendered walls, which are huge open canvasses in the eyes of talented artists. And there are some very positive impacts from having a thriving street culture, not only from improving how our city looks, but also from a tourist perspective. With so many people these days complaining that Bunbury lacks inspirational vision, this could just be the perfect way to put our city on the map internationally, to become renowned as a hot spot for culture an art, and a must see destination, not only for Western Australian locals, but people from all sides of the globe. And for this reason, we commend the efforts of everybody involved at Six Two Three Zero and the Re discover project, what you have accomplished is truly amazing, and every person we have talked to, has been blown away by what you have done for our city. Also thanks to Shane Taylor for some of these fantastic photos submitted to our wall last night, and more importantly, dont just kick back looking at these photos, go for a walk through our city, alleyways that might otherwise not be ventured down, and take some of this artwork in. Maps are available, but we would recommend just going for a walk, and doing exactly as the organisers intended, literally go and re discover Bunbury and be suprised along the way. And then grab a map at the end and check out the ones you missed, there are some truly amazing works out there, which is making international headlines. #rediscoverbunbury #streetart #rediscover2015 and a big thanks also to Shane Taylor for posting some of these amazing photos to our wall. The Re Discover walking tours kick off at both 5 and 5.15pm today from the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries, check out more info on the event at https://facebook/events/1547101762210122/?ref_newsfeed_story_type=regular and most importantly, thank you to all of the artists responsible for these amazing works, and please keep it up.
