[Ill be offline for a few days, so here are the entries to fill in. Its almost been 6 months since the US Rails took over the B&A and still derailments happen. The environment is one of extremes and keeping the rails fastened in spite of the heat and humidity is a real trick.] 20 August - Sunday Still hot. Quiet. Had film - poor. Bed right after show. 21 August - Monday Good nights sleep: cooler in night. Found RxRm loads by the hundreds at LMG and MXN plus only 150 here at MPQ. Kerr called and asked if he should hold them at LMG. Told him to let em come. Stables three 60 car trains on double line between MPQ and RxRX. Lack of power main cause of pile up. Spent all day at station trying to work out of this flood of traffic. Finally cleared up by 1800. Saw Canterville Ghost - invited Major Nelson and his staff. Darn good movie. 22 August - Tuesday Met 4 DN and put Brig General Peter Haines (British Eng O.C.) and Col Hassock (his aide) on Col Wilsons saloon. Dont think he was any too pleased about it because he really hates their guts and being the tactful soul that he is he tells them so. Rest of day trying to get 480 RxRm loads into RxRm. 2 CGs capsized at ACD Siding and at 1800 hrs a four wheeler went off above the siding. Saw British Sisters stage show at the Garrison Theatre in evening. Very poor. 23 August - Wednesday Up 0600 and lined up crane and relief (wreck) train to begin on RxRm derailments. To date all we have done in the case of derailments has been to push them clear of the track into the jungle in order to not impede traffic. Tore up the RR for some power and finally squeezed two WDs out of Kerr. Finally worked off RxRm surplus loads by doubling engines by 2300 hrs. Saw Double Indemnity - good show. RAF Sgts invited my Sgts to stay at their Mess after the show. They did and took RAF Sgts for over 300 Rs.; at least that is all they will admit to. Good haul of mail from Mother and Kay. Local Electric-in-Charge (Indian) is trying some skin game with a Kahai gal he is keeping. Rather amusing game. He is the same damn fool that brought dirty Naga girl right into our camp and to my basha and suggested she would be good to keep my basha clean and Sahib happy. 24 August - Thursday Still hard to awaken in this humidity early in the morning. Spent afternoon checking wagons off the track and fast being covered by the jungle in RxRm with Capt Lewis B. Ashby. Counted twenty five of them. Wilson wants them picked up not to save the contents but he says that if I have more derailments at those spots it will be hell to clear the track with no place to throw them. He is right but it is going to be one hell of a job.
