Ill huff and puff and blow your house down! Ill huff and Ill puff and Ill blow your house down! Performers: Courtney Brown (Blowing), Gennette Gill (Blowing), Jacqueline Arias (Video Camera) composed by Courtney Brown Ill huff and Ill puff and Ill blow your house down! is a piece written for two performers who distort and obscure the projection of themselves by blowing into microphones, and another performer who controls the video camera. The physical choreographed relationship between the two performers was inspired by seeing Marina Abramovichs work with Ulay and the recreations at MOMA this past spring, as well as my own experience being a twin. I designed the piece to be demanding by creating long sustained notes and including syncopated, odd rhythms. By exhausting myself and my performer-double, I intend to invoke an experience of embodiment subject to limitations, injury, and eventual death. What happens when there is a discrepancy between intention and capability to carry out an action? How might this cause a person to view her own body as foreign and external to herself? My approach to notation is informed by experience as a composer. First, I defined the rhythm of the blowing by using percussion notation. For the video camera, I specified the approximate zoom of the camera, the subject(s), which part of the face or body to film, and included a symbol indicating for the performer to choose. The software for this piece was written with Processing and Supercollider. _______ FOLLOW LIPSapp Classic Radio _______ FB: r-js/1vz7Pcz / TW: r-js/1kHd2Qt / Listen to LIPSapp Classic Radio r-js/1dOIQ18 #classicrock #rollingstones #ledzeppelin #santana #eagles #zztop #thewho #beatles #elvis #jimihendrix #dylan #acdc #michaeljackson #pinkfloyd #madonna #u2
