Im convinced that the American dream is alive and well when and IF - TopicsExpress

Im convinced that the American dream is alive and well when and IF we all find a way to run a very profitable, legal business that is hemorrhaging money at the expense of their patrons like that of the joint called Half Priced Books. Look, I dont ever stop in hoping to get rich....I mean honestly, how could you expect t. But for the amount of time it takes to get there and then wait for them to go through your boxes only to insult you is enough to make you want to never visit again. Like I did today giving them the benefit of the doubt. A few months back, I stopped in with two....two TUBS of cds. Everything from classic rock, to 90s rock, to rap, to country to classic country. Some no names...some very well known names. After an hour and 20 minute wait I was finally told that they would like to take 30 of them for $11. That was it...didnt want the others. I laughed, kindly declined and left with my two tubs. No reason to sell 30 for $11 when I could just donate them, which I did. Today over lunch I took in another box...this time of 20 large hardbound novels/books (books about presidents, famous thrillers, music history books) and a bout 20 VHS tapes (which I just wanted out of the garage). Once again I showed up and waited....and waited....and waited.......30 minutes in all which wasnt too bad considering the time of day. Once my name was called the guy proceeded to tell me they would like to offer me $5 for the entire box. $5? For the entire box? I asked Yeah, well...mainly for these 5 books right here. These are the ones that will sell. Okay, so thats a $1 a book? Listen Im good with that and Ill take the rest back home. No, its $5 for everything. The offer is for everything, not just these 5 books. So what are you going to do with the other 15 books and VHS tapes? Throw them in the trash? Oh no, well put them on the shelf and try to sell them. So $5....for 20 books that at one time all had a combined total of over $300, which will be sold between $5.99 - $7.99 a piece and 20 VHS tapes that will sit on your shelf for months going for a $1 a piece. $5 for EVERYTHING and I have to leave it all...the stuff not in your hands. Yessir. You do know that you guys sell crappy incense for $6 a bag right? And Big Bang Theory toys for $12 and up? Yep Ya know, on second thought, think Ill just keep all of it and donate it to a good cause like a shelter or library in town. Sounds good sir, Im sure they will go to good use. Sorry we couldnt agree on a price for all of it, but I hope you realize we need to make a profit too. So thats how you justify saying that.....hahahahaha That will be the last time I visit. That is of course unless I need a tin sign of the Walking Dead for $25 or so. What a sham....and a profitable one. I MUST come up with a racket like that.
