Im not sure where the breakdown has come from, or who is - TopicsExpress

Im not sure where the breakdown has come from, or who is responsible for such training, but there is no respect for funeral protocol anymore. I am going to assume that people simply dont know any better, and that no one taught them. (I believe this is a parents job.) Here are some basic rules of respect and honoring the dead. 1. If you go to a funeral, dress the best you can. Jeans, tennis shoes, and sloppy attire, scream that you really dont care and that you were dragged there by your wife, girlfriend, or mother, who of course is wearing a nice dress. Its not about your comfort. It is about showing respect for the dead and their family. 2. A procession of cars behind a hearse, when all of them have high beams and flashing 4-way indicators, means there is a family on the way to bury a loved one. Out of respect, pull over to the shoulder and stop even in the oncoming lane, or at least slow down, till the procession has passed. Notice that the car in the distance did that. 3. When a procession of cars behind a hearse enters an intersection controlled by police or not, the cars in the procession have the right of way until they are all through (regardless of a changing color of the light), and one is not to cut in or through the procession just because you are in a hurry, or to get through an otherwise red light. 4. It is appropriate for pedestrians, to stop walking, face the hearse and family as they go by, and take off your hat if you are wearing one, until the complete procession has gone by. Maybe if enough people teach this to their children and friends, we will recover a more civil and respectful society. Just sayin.
