Im proud of my son for making one of the hardest decisions of his young life. He made a commitment to serve God years ago and we thought that by going to Howard Payne he would be able to attend church, attend school and play football. During his recruitment he was told that Wednesday evenings and Sunday before 2pm and after 4pm he would be free to attend church at home in Comanche since it was close by. During this beginning week he soon found out that football would take most of his time and his relationship with God would suffer because of it and those days would not be available to him. He went to the coach at Howard Payne to explain the decision and to see if he would be able to work out a solution to the dilemma. The Head Coach said that church attendance and a relationship with God was not an important reason to quit and that he made a commitment to the coach. Marshall told the coach that he made a commitment to Jesus long before he committed to the school and it was understood that he would be able to attend worship services at his home church while playing for Howard Payne. So Marshall quit the football program at Howard Payne to honor his commitment to Jesus. I know a lot of people will not understand what Marshall did, however it took character, integrity, and courage to quit something he loves to do in order to serve God. I just wish Howard Paynes coaching staff would have shown the character and integrity they say that they want in players when they told us there would be no problem with him attending his own church. And this is supposed to be a Christian university. What Christian school doesnt put Christ first? Proud of you Son for doing the right thing.
