Im thankful day 8. Im so thankful for my Mother (Nov. 15, 1913--May 23, 2007) Yes she is gone now but she was a woman beyond the means of strength. She was 23 years old when she lost both of her parents in less than a week apart. on from poisening an the other from suicide. She was the oldest girl of seven children, with a brother older than her. With the help from my dads parents, they raised her younger brothers an sisters. Married my daddy in Nov. 4, 1936. From then on she went thru the depression with all of this weighing on her an starting to raise her own family. Im so thankful that she taught me to raise a garden the way to do it by hand, taught me to sew on a treadle sewing machine, do hand sewing, embroidery dresser scarves. an cook. (just wish I had written some of the recipes down) My favorite dessert she made was her Poppyseed Kolaches. OOhh my goodness there wasnt nothing better. But there was alot of things my mother cooked that was out of this world. Her Father came from Czech Republic which is what it is called now. an My Grandmother came from there also. They left there home country to live in the United States. So a lot of the recipes were brought from the home land. I wish I could have learned to speak Czech. but momma said English was the language of the land. She taught me an my daughter alot about sewing (even though I would have rather been in the barn with the calves an my horse,) an Im so thankful for the loving mother she was.
