Im walking around today with a smudged x above my right eye. I had cataract surgery yesterday, and they take great pains these days to make sure they do the correct eye. The nurse in surgical prep checked my chart, asked me to confirm that they were doing my right eye, then inked in an x over that eye. They asked me again in the operating room, and, when the ophthalmologist showed up to start carving, he placed another x over my right eye. Since Im not supposed to wash my face or get it wet in the shower for a couple of days, Ill have that slight smudge into next week. How did it go? Wonderfully! When they removed my eyepatch this morning at Memorial in Owosso, a beautiful clear world snapped into crisp focus, one I havent seen for several years. The fog in my right side vision came on so slowly that I hadntt really noticed how bad it was getting until this summer. And the doc says it should continue to improve over the next week or so. About mid-December Ill go back to the optometrist to be fitted for new specs. Left eye? I may well need cataract surgery in that one too one day, but its still good enough for the time being.
