Im willing to bet theres at least one person on my friends list who will still defend the police in this case. This is a good example of what the people who are concerned about brutality are concerned about. This is what I, as a law abiding citizen (but also a 64 black man whos flirting with 300lbs) am worried about. If I see lights, Im pulling over. But once I see the guns come out, I will be afraid. Once they begin hitting me, and screaming at me to stop resisting and to stop trying to take my gun, when Im doing no such thing, I worry Ill never see the people I love again. I worry that I can do everything right, and simply because of my appearance still end up shot dead. For my friends who post support the police pictures, I want for you to understand that there are legitimate cases where there is police overreach, just like they attempted to do to this man. And then they tried to cover it up. This is what people are worried about. And it shouldnt be seen as bad to want these types of officers weeded out of the profession. Its ok to say support the police. Its not ok to act as if that support should come with no expectations that their power is wielded justly and fairly.
