Imagine you traveled to another country. It wasnt for anything - TopicsExpress

Imagine you traveled to another country. It wasnt for anything selfish like a vacation, but to serve others in need, to help make the ends of the world a safer place. Maybe youre a solider in the US Armed forces or a Missionary or a Dr or maybe a Scientist. Now imagine that while you are performing said selfless act, you contact a deadly virus that could not only kill you but others. What do you do? Who do you call? Without serious medical attention youll die. Thankfully, we have the CDC in Atlanta, who are professionals at handling quarantines, deadly contagions, with the assistance of the whose who in the medical, biological, and pharmaceutical, world over. I know this Ebola outbreak is shaking folks up. Its scary I know. But Imagine it was you or your parent or your child. Could you risk letting them die because they might infect you? Would you forbid them access to state of the art treatment? Would you close the door on them and let them die? We do not live in a vacuum. What happens in West Africa WONT stay in West Africa even if we isolate the continent. A butterfly in your very own garden leaves an imprint on the world. We need to ban together people, we need to be courageous, proactive, compassionate, and show our humanity. This may end horribly... But it may save so many more people; theres just no guarantee. I too want to live and grow old with my loved ones, but not at the expense of my brothers and sisters around the globe. It saddens me to hear so many folks protesting the arrival of Dr Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol to the States. Lets stop and think about the hundreds whove already lost their lives in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria and how scared West Africa might be about now. Were all scared and were all in this together, some more than others. We dont need fear to drive a wedge between our humanity and our obligation, to care for one another. Its ok to be afraid. Having compassion for what you fear is called bravery. We need to be brave. #DrKentBrantly #NancyWritebol #Ebola
