Important Information about upcoming Mid terms: As all of you - TopicsExpress

Important Information about upcoming Mid terms: As all of you know, this Friday, the 10th of October, is the end of the first half of our semester; therefore, quarter mid-term grades will be issued so students and parents can get a good idea of where they presently sit, half way through the semester. You will actually see a grade posted in Powerschool, but it is only there until the final semester grade posts in December. Once the semester grade posts, the quarter mid-term grade disappears. The final semester grade is based on the grades of assignments and tests for the entire semester, totaling 85% of the grade and the remaining 15%, comes from the end of semester final exam score. The semester scores along with final exam are then utilized to create the final grade for the semester. We know many of you get really concerned about the posted mid-term grades; which is exactly our intent, in order for it to be a good measure of your students half-way mark. It is a great opportunity for your student, you as the parent and/or guardian, and our teachers to look at, analyze, and measure the progress or lack thereof of the student. It is also a measurement for our teachers to take a look at and self reflect on how their lessons and teacher effectiveness are progressing with each individual student. As many of you know, you will all have an opportunity along with your student, to meet with any and/or all of their teachers a week from this Thursday, the 16th of October, during the parent-teacher conferences from 4:00-7:30 PM in the big gymnasium. We began this open arena format last year where we had two nights in October for these meetings. We feel that this format is so valuable that this year we will be splitting the nights up. We will have one night in October, then again, another night in March, on the 19th, also at mid-term time, so everyone can once again self-evaluate half way through the second semester, a very critical time for students as well. This second opportunity has never been available in the past, and we are once again excited to be making improvements in how we do business as a school in order for your students to grow, learn and be successful. We thank all of you as parents and/or guardians for your continued support in our efforts to help educate your students and prepare them for a successful future after their high school experience. It requires a full and complete team effort to guarantee the greatest potential for success. As the majority of you know, our state uses an A-F model to grade our school which is based on Algebra 1 and English 10 scores, coupled with college and career readiness, (measured through dual credit and AP courses) along with graduation rates; and we take this process of measurement seriously. As the instructional leader of our school, I want all to know that I believe that the real measurement of what we do doesnt actually come to fruition until two to six years after graduation when our students, your children, become successful and productive citizens. As long as I am blessed to serve as the leader of this great educational institution, we will work tirelessly to be one of the very best schools in Northern Indiana. We are grateful for the opportunity we have to continue serving your students and look forward to your continued help and support. We thank you for entrusting your students into our hands and we humbly strive to do our very best to serve them. Thank you! Mr. D.
