In 1915, this was the view from the Courthouse lawn looking north across Irvine Street. The Richmond Fire Department was still using a horse-drawn wagon, then, and the Miller House was home to Richmonds City Hall. I can remember the old fire department building from my younger days. It was later replaced by the old Richmond Motor Company building (corner West Main and Church Streets) when City Hall took the over the old Federal Building. The old fire department building is now home to the Madison County Detention Center. The Miller House stood for 196 years until it was razed a year ago to make room for a parking lot.
