In Iconium Acts 14:1 At Iconium Paul and Barnabas went as usual - TopicsExpress

In Iconium Acts 14:1 At Iconium Paul and Barnabas went as usual into the Jewish synagogue. There they spoke so effectively that a great number of Jews and Greeks believed. 2 But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the other Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers. 3 So Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly for the Lord, who confirmed the message of his grace by enabling them to perform signs and wonders. 4 The people of the city were divided; some sided with the Jews, others with the apostles. 5 There was a plot afoot among both Gentiles and Jews, together with their leaders, to mistreat them and stone them. 6 But they found out about it and fled to the Lycaonian cities of Lystra and Derbe and to the surrounding country, 7 where they continued to preach the gospel. * Paul has now escaped two death plots. Strange thing is, when it comes time for him to actually die, he knew what was going to happen and he knew it was his time. He even went TO Rome knowing he would be put to death. But for some reason during these other times, he escapes death knowingly. Barnabas is always ready to obey the Lord as well. They are not afraid of death, but merely know that their work isn’t done yet. I love that they keep speaking boldly even though they know their lives are on the line. Would I do that? Do I speak boldly for the Lord about His gospel even though my pride is on the line? My friendships are on the line? My own ambitions are on the line? If I cannot speak the good news when these other things are on the line, what makes me think I could do it if my life is on the line? There is a man now in prison, pastor Saeed Abedini who is an American pastor. He has been in prison in Iran for a year now. He has been tortured and his medications kept from him. His crime? Starting a home bible study. During the nuclear talks with Iran the Americans in the Iranian prison were not even mentioned. Evil wins when good men do nothing.
