In Japan they call this Karoshi. Literally working ones self to death. She kept a gas can in her car because she had ran out of gas in the past driving between jobs and for those that have never had to work a minimum wage gig, many times one minute late equals fired. Friday is typically a day to come in to the office a few minutes late, take a little bit longer lunch, get ready for the weekend, wind down a bit while still getting paid... If you have a job, especially one job that pays enough to support your family, take a couple extra seconds to consider your position and be grateful for it. You probably worked hard for it and deserve it. I dont mean to be insufferable. I just think it helps us to stay grounded in times of stress to realize how good many of us have it by empathizing with people who we see every day who dont have it as good as we do. The people who work at the gas station, fast food restaurants, the car wash, walmart/target workers... Take an extra minute today to be pleasant with the people you interact with today who may be in a position similar to which this woman was.
