In June 2012, then WV Attorney General Darrell McGraw filed a lawsuit against Cardinal Health, alleging the company profited from southern West Virginias pain pill epidemic. In November 2012, carpetbagger Patrick Morissey defeated McGraw with the help of massive sums of money outside the Mountain State. Since Morisseys wife is employed by a lobbying firm that did work for Cardinal Health and because the company also donated money to his inauguration, Morissey claimed that he had recused himself from the lawsuit and hired outside counsel to represent the state. HOWEVER, the Charleston Gazette has discovered that our carpetbagger AG has continued to meet with Cardinal Health executives and attorneys and has engaged in correspondence with them as well. Moreover, in a recent interview, it sure seemed that Morissey will recommend to the WV Legislature that they *not* pass a law requiring that pseudoephedrine be available via prescription only. Morissey says he is concerned with regulatory costs but what about the human costs? “At the end of the day, you have to not stop one problem and create another,” Morrisey said. The problem it would create? Reduced profits for the pharmaceutical industry.
