In Weekend News: Holy Rosary golf tourney once again a success Omer J. Cormier Sports Correspondent #GARDNER — The 22nd Annual Robert C. Langlois Golf Classic went off without a hitch in fair weather at the Gardner Municipal Golf Course with 128 participants enjoying the proceedings on Friday. Rev. Fr. Brian O’Toole and Charles P. Bowles, co-chairpersons, expressed themselves exceedingly pleased inasmuch as the $20,000 goal, achieved last year for the first time, may have been surpassed. Almost unbelievably, there has been no rain that has ever fallen on this event that has financed improvements for the Nichols Street parochial school, and will undoubtedly be continued next year when a merger with Sacred Heart School will form the Holy Family Academy beginning with the September 2014 school year. Principal Stephen Chartier attended the windup of festivities at the PACC where Royer’s Catering played host to the golfers after their day on the links. It took a 48 net, the same as a year ago, for the quartet of Corey Fisher, Brian Chipman, Scott Kosakowski and Scott Walker to win the event and the plaques that denoted their 2014 championship. Runnerup at 50 were Lynn and Sommay Sayarath, Jason Snesnian, and Chris Reokay with third place at 51 going to Jake Daly, Chris Cormier, Alec Norskey and Omer Cormier. Fourth low net was posted by Dan Budwick, Mark Richard, Steve Egeland and Jeff LaBonte, their mark at 52. The low gross prize of 55 came to John Jillson, Kenny Arsenault, Kevin Mack and Larry McLaughlin, while second place from scratch went to Dave Drake, Ric Perry, Fred Hurd and Dave Noyes. Some scores in the day’s event were lowered by the purchase of “mulligans,” used to help enhance the receipts of the day. Dr. James Faust nailed three putts in the preliminary round to qualify for a shot at the $10,000 prize at the 16th hole, a minimum of 40 feet, laid out from the top with a sharp bend near the hole, and the retired doctor failed to nail that one. There were no winners either at the $5,000 hole-in-one at the sixth hole, lengthened by rule to some 165 yards. The committee handling the event included Rev. O’Toole and Bowles, co-chairpersons, Michelle Arsenault, Chet Beauregard, Andrew Boucher, Stephen Chartier, Omer Cormier, Sharon Doiron, Paul Fitzpatrick, Jeff Gallant, Pete Jaillet, Ricky Laperriere, Kevin Mack, Ric Perry, Mike Therrien and Pat Griffin, the latter serving as master of ceremonies for the presentation of prizes. A large number of non-playing sponsors helped make the day its usual great success.
