In a campaign speech at last weeks re-opening of Parliament, Harpers tirades against Putin, seemingly deranged and idiotic, while at the same time contributing to a dialogue which will inflame the civil war in Ukraine, escalate the violence and increase death toll appears to be a cynical and calculated narrative designed to misinform and misdirect the public and increase Conservative support for the next Federal election. Harper has finally gotten the excuse to send troops to Iraq, although in advisory not combat roles. And its really, really secret so dont comment on or question it. Where have we heard about highly trained and effective special ops being advisers? Well it wasnt in Southeast Asia where American advisors didnt set fire to crops, poison wells, and drop tens of thousands of bombs unbeknownst to Americans whos taxes paid for the whole thing. Yes it was. And of course there was one of Harpers greatest misrepresentations, his deeply flawed and highly partisan support for extremist right-wing political movement - notably Benjamin Netanyahu and his gang which he portrayed as being upholding Canadian values and supporting Israel - which it isnt. A recent survey showed that while Canadians supported the rights of Israelis to live in peace and safety, they didnt buy Harpers bullshit or statement that Canada unquestioningly supported the right-wing extremism of Netanyahu. Which is probably why he invoked that George W. Bush threat tactic - youre either with us or youre with the terrorists - to imply that anyone who disagrees with him, or who engages in critical thinking and asks any kind of question is unpatriotic and a terrorist supporter. Its not only an insult to Canadians and an affront to democracy, but its also an indication to those involved that Canada wont be using its resources to help those who need it, but instead supporting and continuing the actions that caused the current crisis and hardships. Iraq specifically stated that they did not need or want military assistance, but humanitarian aid. And all in the name of Canadian values...
