In addition to the 1986 motion picture The Hitcher, Roys Motel in Amboy played a role in 1993s psycho-thriller Kalifornia starring Brad Pitt and David Duchovny. It was also used in Enrique Iglesias 2001 music video Hero and the 2008 vampire thriller Live Evil. The 2010 thriller Beneath The Dark was filmed in Amboy; and the sole location for an independent, 2011 micro budget, thriller, The Caretaker.
