In case many of you are wondering, I did not make the trip to Canada. I feel like a Poitou Beaudet donkey. I had remembered to pack my passport every day for 4 months except, yep, you guessed it, except for the day that I had packed and had left Texas for southern Maine. Tried to check about retirement on-line with the Social Security office before leaving on my trip and it said that my SSN didnt exist, WHAT !?! I dont exist ! 47 years of paying taxes and my number doesnt exist, YIKES ! I had brought all sorts of ID including my birth certificate, drivers license, tax papers, social security card and of course, my passport to the social security office. 200 people there so went home and called their 800 number instead. They called back 30 minutes later (the government being prompt, go figure) and a very courteous man got that straightened out for me (I now ... exist), but locked all that info into a metal drawer without thinking to take out the passport. Two days, 24 hours of driving time and 1500 miles later I realized in a motel room that I had forgotten my passport, so, I couldnt go to Canada for the reunion in LeClercville. Very disappointing for myself and to Gilberte and Raymond Beaudet who had offered up their home to me for a place to stay. They have offered me the same when I go next year as well as Wanda Pitcher Boisvert who has offered me a place to stay at her and her husbands home in Nova Scotia should I decide to try again next year. Can hardly wait to meet my Canadian relatives, hopefully, next year. They have been so kind and helpful in my quest to update the family genealogy. As Paul Harvey use to say, ... and now you know the rest of the story.
