In honor of Girl Scout week and 102nd Birthday ~ here’s a brief - TopicsExpress

In honor of Girl Scout week and 102nd Birthday ~ here’s a brief rundown on GS history with a little bit of me in it. Juliette Gordon Low spent several years searching for something useful to do with her life. Her search ended in 1911, when she met Sir Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides, and became interested in the new youth movement. Less than a year later, she returned to the United States and made her historic telephone call to a friend (a distant cousin), saying, Ive got something for the girls of Savannah, and all of America, and all the world, and were going to start it tonight!” On March 12, 1912, Juliette Low gathered 18 girls to register the first troop of American Girl Guides. Margaret Daisy Doots Gordon, her niece and namesake, was the first registered member. The name of the organization was changed to Girl Scouts the following year. For me, it seemed I was born in a tent ~ well, that’s a bit of an extreme, especially as my birthday is in January. My mother had been involved in girl Scouts for many years from a scout to a leader. She was my leader and I was “active in scouting until I was in 8th grade when I decided at that point, I might as well become first class, I also earned the Marion Medal ~ a high honor in scouting. Currently both my mother and I are lifetime members ~ and still to this day ~ can’t wait for cookie season! Happy 102nd Birthday Girl Scouts!!!!
