In honor of the 60th Anniversary of Holy Rosary Church and School, - TopicsExpress

In honor of the 60th Anniversary of Holy Rosary Church and School, which will start with the celebration of Mass on Sat. Sept. 13 at 4 PM, I want to acknowledge the following teachers who taught me: Sister Bernard Joseph - 1st Grade Sister Gerard Francis - 2nd Grade Mrs. McDowell - 3rd Grade Sister Gerard Francis - 4th Grade Mrs. Carrigan-5th Grade Mrs. Stith - 6th Grade Ms. Clark - 7th Grade Sister Frances Jeanne - 8th Grade All the sisters were from the Sisters of Charity at Nazareth order. Father Wiley was our pastor and I received the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist from him. I remember making my second confession with Father Wiley and I told him it was my first confession as he scared me to death. Sister Sheila Ann was the principal. She used to get really red in the face when she got angry. I never was the victim of her anger, thank goodness. Willy was the school bus driver. I thought Sister Gerard Francis was so pretty and soft spoken. I remember making her a bracelet made out of clover. Her favorite expressions were the eyes are the windows of the soul and tell the truth and shame the devil. She encouraged us to write JMJ (Jesus, Mary, Joseph) on our notebook paper when we were doing our homework. She also told us to trace those initials on our pillows before we went to bed. Mrs. Stith was an older teacher and really sweet. Ms. Clark mother passed away during the school year and all of us went to her Moms funeral. I had never seen a deceased person before. I liked her a lot as she encouraged me to write. Sister Frances Jeanne was not a fan of the Beatles. And I was. Eighth grade was about the time I entered into my rebellious years. Bless Sisters heart. To all my teachers and Father Wiley and all the priests who followed him, and mostly my parents, I thank you for the wonderful foundation you provided me by sending me to Holy Rosary School. Sixty years later, even though I live in a different state and have to travel about 45 minutes to get to Mass, I still feel as if I am home when I walk through the doors of Holy Rosary Church.
