In looking up Robin Williams movies on Netflix, Im reminded of how many characters he played who tried to overcome suffering. Fisher King - his wife got murdered in front of him, driving him insane and homeless Mrs. Doubtfire - he got divorced and a bad legal deal limiting time with his kids Jumanji - he grew up trapped inside a jungle alone for 26 years Jack - due to a genetic disorder, he couldnt completely relate to anyone his own age Aladdin - enslaved in a magic lamp for ten thousand years Good Will Hunting - a psychiatrist widower who mentors an insensitive, insufferable genius FernGully - a bat thats been permanently brain damaged by lab scientists Dead Poets Society - a professor whose pleas to seize the day inadvertently result in a students suicide and his firing Good Morning Vietnam - a radio DJ whose job it is to divert soldiers attention from the violent horrors of the Vietnam War Patch Adams - despite his love interest getting murdered, he continued to make others laugh, even the terminally ill I think he was so close to us because he played characters that suffered so deeply, and still wanted to make others happy anyway.
