In memory of Major Zachary Waity, laid to rest this day in the Gardens of Stone, the National Cemetery at Arlington. Godspeed... Godspeed... Godspeed... Ye were my last commander, my last Captain, When this old campaigner, game for one more Charge! Stepped up to The Line, raised my hand and cried, Choose me! You were my Captain when my old hands grasped the tools of war And felt youthful vigor flow once again through my veins. You took me to war, an bid me do my duty, as best it could be done, An overlooked my faults, instead, as leaders do, showd the way With a cheery smile and flash of teeth cried, Follow me! Which I did, my Captain, with the host that lovd ye. For love ye they did, that company of rascals and neer do wells, Rogues and ruffians (and werent we all!), and hard men all, beneath whose iron hides They held their commander, much beloved, ready to follow him Through the very Gates of Hell itself... O Captain! My Captain... Rest ye now, my Captain, my Commander... Your course well run, Ye shall live forever, in the hearts of those who went to war with ye And livd to tell the tale... -William R.
