In occupied Kashmir, the Human Rights Commission has flayed the Indian police for killing a youth, Farhat Ahmad Dar, in Bandipora district and termed it a gross human rights violation. According to Media sources, taking suo-moto cognizance of the killing, acting Chairperson of the Commission, Rafiq Fida, in his order stated that police had failed to adhere to the Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) while dispersing protestors. The Commission sought factual report on the incident from Director General of Police, Deputy Commissioner of Bandipora and Commandant of Indian Reserve Police battalion posted in Naidkhai. Quoting the report ‘Naidkhai youth killed in police firing’ published in a section of pres on Saturday, the Commission maintained that Farhat Ahmad Dar was shot dead by the police in Naidkhai area of Bandipora on Friday evening while eight others sustained injuries in the incident. The news report states that locals were staging routine pro-freedom protest in the area after Friday prayers. After offering special prayers they marched towards an Indian Reserve Police (IRP) camp and met a contingent of police near the Higher Secondary School triggering ding-ding clashes. At around 6.15 pm, the police personnel directly opened fire on the crowd an eyewitness is reported to have said, adding that at least eight persons including Farhat were injured,” the Chairperson observed in the order. The Commission also asked father of the deceased youth, Ghulam Muhammad Dar of Shahgund, Sonawari, to appear on the next date of hearing and file correct statement of facts regarding the incident. The case is fixed for hearing on April 7.
