In response to the fatal wreck at Spiker and - TopicsExpress

In response to the fatal wreck at Spiker and Piqua-Clayton... Begin rant. I grew up in Piqua and Covington, but I havent lived in the area in a long time. I did a six year hitch in the Navy right out of High School and have been serving on active duty in the US Coast Guard for the last eight and a half years. Ive lived in Chicago, Illinois for a year and a half; Hampton Roads area of Virginia for a combined 5 years; Jacksonville, Florida for 4 years; New Orleans, Louisiana for four years and now live in Atlantic Beach, NC. Ive driven through it ALL. Ive been through REAL traffic with REAL hazards. Ive driven the curvy mountain roads in the winter when coming home for leave. Ive driven through tropical depressions and two hurricane evacuations. Ive hunkered down and weathered two other hurricanes and had to drive through the aftermath. I cleaned up the entire southern portion of the state of Louisiana after Katrina via Government Vehicle! My point is this. How the hell (WHY the hell) do Ohioans keep getting killed in car accidents? I know most of you are great drivers. The roads are mostly flat and straight. Just about all the intersections are at right angles. Its late fall, so the corns down and theres no obstruction of view. These arent car accidents. They are incidents of vehicular stupidity. I dont know the statistics, but automotive accidents MUST be the leading cause of death in Ohio, and its SO SAD because its so preventable in the nerfed driving environment you all are blessed to be presented with. I could understand in the dead of winter when theres snow and ice on the roads, but Ohioans pride themselves in their ability to drive in the winter and with just cause. Nobody dies on the roads in the winter in Ohio. Other than winter, theres simply NO REASON to die in an automobile in Ohio and its ever more tragic when people do so anyway simply because they were stupid or fell pray to those who were. The places where Ive lived, its war every time you get behind the wheel. There are people of every age and demographic battling for every inch, vying for position to win the precious seconds they may gain over one another and shorten their commute. Then throw in a few senile blue-hairs, a hurricane off-shore and a police chase and things REALLY get interesting! The drivers are much worse and the field is vastly more complicated. My truck has been hit THREE TIMES while sitting in the parking lot at Wal-Mart!!! Please beloved Ohio brethren! Be careful when you get behind the wheel. Pay attention. Get a DD. Pull over and sleep if youre tired. PUT ON YOUR DAMNED SEATBELT! It saddens me every time I hear of these needless fatalities. End Rant.
