In the summer of 1969, Leon Barris, Brad Lieuallen and I spent a week driving north through central Caifornias gold mining districts. Leon had a huge red Dodge pick-up truck with a large overhead camper. We would basically drive wherever we wanted to go, and stop to make camp for the night when we felt like it. Sometimes we stayed in campgrounds, sometimes in the wild. All three of us collected glass insulators, and we were looking for old abandoned telephone and telegraph lines, and stopping to check out a lot of the antique shops along the way. I was home for the summer from my freshman year at BYU. Leon had just graduated from Banning High, and Brad would be a junior at BHS the coming year. It was a wonderful time in my life and the three of us had a great time together, sight-seeing and hunting glass insulators, and camping out at night.
