A study of women seeking restraining orders found that eighty-three per cent of those with lawyers secured an order while only thirty-two per cent of those without lawyers got them. Tenants represented by lawyers are three to nineteen times more likely to beat their landlords in eviction cases. Or let’s talk about foreclosures: people facing foreclosure and eviction are dramatically more likely to be able to keep their homes if they are represented by a lawyer.
