In theory and in practice I believe the municipalities of all - TopicsExpress

In theory and in practice I believe the municipalities of all urban areas and their populations need to shift gears to low or no carbon foot print vehicles wherever and whenever possible for our world youth, children and their children’s future survival. The most flexible, logical, efficient and cost effective form of transportation truly is the bicycle. Over recent years there has been a growing number of people that have taken to commuter cycling everywhere as a primary means of travel both to and from work and also to other places of interest. I have now been doing this and using public transit in combination since the early winter of 2000 when I sold my last personal vehicle. The miles/km’s are all adding up on my body but the upside is that it has truly carved 10 years of aging off me and kept me in very good health year round for many years. I also gave up smoking along the way but I think the greatest aspect that I enjoyed was seeing my daily stress lowered, fitness improved while other people were increasing their stress while stuck in traffic jams, paying ever increasing higher prices for fuel and all the additional costs associated with owning and operating a motorized vehicle. The one thing I am most proud of is that I feel I did and am still doing my part to help reduce my personal carbon footprint which ultimately helps out Gaia and all of you whom are planning to live here on planet earth over the next century. Last week I sent an introduction letter and a Mission Statement to our Vancouver Mayor, Mr. Gregor Robertson called 1 Happy Planet hoping that he will become a founding member for a Non Profit organization dedicated to moving people out of CO2 combustion engine vehicles and onto bicycles for the benefit of all current and future generations. This I believe is a paradigm shift that needs to happen the world over! It needs to start somewhere and I feel there is no large urban city as active as Vancouver. We simply can’t and should not carry on doing business as usual and living life as we have for so many years now. To help move us along I was thinking of starting a Blog called The Sunday Rider. It’s called that because we all have to start somewhere on this journey and Sunday is always the best day to get out early and ride your bike. Who knows you may end up loving it all as much as I do and also make it your primary and preferred go to commuter vehicle in the future. I hope somehow Dr. James Lovelock that this may help move us humans in a better direction and in a better way for the future needs to be now!
