In this weeks weightlifting TECHNIQUE classes (tonight 6:30 pm, Saturday 9:00 am), we return to work on the snatch. We begin with a series of drills designed to help you find the starting position best suited for your body. In this position, we look for chest up (facing forward, not toward the floor), back neutral or slightly arched/extended, shoulders directly on top of (or slightly ahead of) the bar, hips as close to the ankles as feasible for you, and all the slack taken out of your arms & the bar before you begin lift-off. Well also work on breaking the bar off the floor using your legs (not your back or arms) as the primary mover. This requires you to maintain a consistent torso angle, (hips and shoulders rise at the same speed), shove your knees back to make room for the bar, keep your shoulders over the bar, and keep the bar moving up in a straight line (or back toward your body).
