In true Sy Stansberry style, Sy piped up and reminded me of yet a third instance when I gave a car away. In 2010, my mother had met a Taiwanese American woman, Sue Sims. Sue had been recently divorced and in the economic turndown, she had lost her car, and was about to lose her house. She ran into my mother by coincidence at the local Walmart. They struck up a conversation, and having hit rock bottom, she shared sadly with my mom that she was going through the roughest point in her life. Without a car, she was struggling to get a ride to work. If she couldn’t work, she would become homeless. Mom immediately called to tell me about Sue. When I met her, we realized we both knew Sy as friends. I knew I had to help her out. Mind you, Im no Oprah Winfrey. However, at that time, I did happen to have an extra car that my family was not using as often as we should. It was a pretty yellow Saturn coupe, almost 10 years old. I knew then and there I had found its purpose. When I presented the car to Sue, she was incredulous. She said it was truly God sent, at the moment of her greatest need. Giving her that car not only enabled her to get to work. It gave her hope. And that is what we all need: just a little hope.
