In which Ryan displays his utter lack of comprehension for the current state of social photography: So a photo of mine got picked to be in Flickr Explore. By picked I mean that it met the inscrutable criteria of the algorithm that Flickr has put in charge of such things. So, super. People have congratulated me for this selection, which is sweet of them, but Im not able to parse just how much of an honor it actually is. Explore seems to have something in excess of a trillion image in it at all times. The honor, I suppose, is in the additional attention it brings to ones photo. As of this afternoon, around 2:45, my photo has 10,069 Views, 125 Faves and has garnered 11 comments. Neat, I suppose. Certainly not record-breaking, based on the stats that Ive seen other folks amass. It also doesnt seem to have much in the way of a collateral effect; people seem to be paying attention to this photo, but not looking at the rest of my feed. So I guess my question is what, if any, actual value is there in all of this? Maybe Im asking the wrong question (the value, for me, occurs in the creation of the image). Whence the congratulations? Someone define the honor for me. Im not ungrateful, exactly, just not 100% sure what I should be grateful for.
