Inaugurated laying of sewer line work in Gandhi Vihar under Adarsh Nagar segment earlier today: • Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University campus to come up over an area of 93 acre near Dhirpur on outer ring road • The government has been constructing thousands of low-cost flats to accommodate slum dwellers in times to come • The work costing Rs.3.65 cr to be completed in six months • To provide clean and healthy environment to around 30,000 Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Sheila Dikshit today stated that the state university called Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University would have its permanent campus near Dhirpur on Outer Ring Road. A plot measuring 93 acre has been allotted for this purpose. The coming up of the University would benefit colonies on both sides of Outer Ring Road and certain colonies would have opportunities to develop fast as two universities Dr. Ambedkar University and Delhi University would be in the vicinity of these colonies. Smt. Dikshit further stated that her government has set up six universities. She added that Delhi still continues to be a centre of attraction as it has been offering ample opportunities to everyone. Around 5 lakh persons have been coming to Delhi every year in search of employment opportunities. In order to address the shortage of dwelling units in Delhi, the city government has been constructing low-cost houses. The coming up of houses would not only accommodate slum families but would also go a long way in curbing the growth of JJ clusters. The government has decided to provide such low-cost houses to SC families for free. Smt. Dikshit also referred to an overall development taken place during last 15 years. She added that the government would continue to ensure rapid development during all times to come. She expressed these views in a function organized to initiate work on laying of sewer lines Gandhi Vihar under Adarsh Nagar Assembly Segment. Union Minister Shri Kapil Sibal and local MLA & Chairperson Delhi Rural Development Board Shri Mangat Ram Singhal also addressed the gathering. The Chief Minister stated that the government has accelerated the pace of laying sewer lines in unauthorized colonies. This would go a long way in providing a clean and healthy atmosphere apart from overcoming filth, stink and diseases. Smt. Dikshit stated that total length of sewer lines would be 5.2 kms and it would serve population of 30,000 persons. The work costing over Rs.3.65 cr would be completed in six months. Delhi Jal Board has taken up scheme of providing Sewerage system in Re-settlement colony Gandhi Vihar in Adarsh Nagar Assembly Consistency. The sewage of Gandhi Vihar Re-settlement Colony will be pumped to Coronation Pillar Waste Water Treatment Plant for treatment through Gandhi Vihar intermediate Waste Water Pumping Station (WWPS) and University Terminal WWPS for its treatment. Smt. Dikshit while addressing the gathering stated that the government should give simultaneous priority on laying of water lines and sewer lines. The laying of sewer lines is of paramount importance as far as a healthy environment is concerned. He stated that the face of Delhi has changed a lot during the last 15 years. The persons coming from outside have been finding it difficult to recognize parts of Delhi. Local MLA Shri Mangat Ram Singhal appreciated the efforts of Smt. Dikshit in getting the scheme of sewer lines approved for his constituency. He also stated that the government under the leadership of Smt. Dikshit has been concentrating on upliftment and welfare of all sections of the society.
