Incredible WWII anti-NAZI heroine! Thanks Matty Ivanovic for the heads-up! Fantastic woman with charitable heart! She reminds me of Julia, the Hungarian activist who was saving Jews in Budapest during WWII. I dont remember her last name, but Lillian Hellman wrote a story about her titled, Pentimento. She risked everything to save the Anne Franks of the world, a story along with the movie, Shindlers List that made a huge impact on me. But there was a problem. It was stolen glory. You see Lillian Hellman was the leading Progressive in the US at the time, later major friends with fellow communists Jane Fonda and Vennesa Redgrave who stared in the movie production of the book named, Julia, up for an Academy Award in 1977 I think. Lillian Hellman was Jewish indeed, but she claimed she was Code Name Mary, a special agent running logistical support between the US and Hungary, a CIA agent in effect. The problem was Mary was alive and well in NY City. And the German General in charge of WWII archives, and a NY Times journalist outed Lillian Hellman as a fraud. Yes, stolen identity and stolen glory! At the same time Hellman was found to be stealing movie scripts from fellow playwright Dansel Hammet, a sort of boyfriend she stashed in her attic. So naturally the next year at the Academy Awards, the disgraced and disgusting Hellman got a standing ovation as she entered the auditorium. To boot, she also answered Bertrand Russell, Britains most famous contemporary communists question, How can you support Joseph Stalin over fellow Jew, Leon Trotsky, when Stalin murdered 27 million of his own people. This same question was asked dozens of times of Hellman. She always gave the same answer: Well it was what he had to do to create his great society! At the same time, she gave $ hundreds of thousands of $ to the ACLU and its predecessor to fight the death penalty! No kidding! In contrast, this story is real, and this woman is a real historical hero. But whos reputation do you think will shine in history? Hellman lied about her heroics, while George Soros, the money mogul of the left who contributes 1,000% as much to political campaigns as the Koch brothers (ranked 59th yet excoriated), told Steve Croft on 60 Minutes that the year he helped seize Jews property in Budapest in 1944 and send them off to the death camps left him with no regrets! In fact, he told Croft, It was probably the best year of my life! So much for progressives!
