Indonesia’s Komodo National Park Indonesia’s Komodo National Park includes three major islands – Komodo, Rinca and Padar – amongst many smaller ones and is famed for its population of approximately 5,700 giant lizards, known as the Komodo Dragon. The park is a world famous scuba diving and snorkelling destination with 42 dive sites and is rich in marine life including coral reefs, mangroves, seagrass beds, seamounts and semi-enclosed bays. The great marine parks where you can jump freely into the water and swim with more than 1,000 species of fish, are also home to 260 species of reef-building coral and 70 species of sponges. Dugong, sharks, manta rays, at least 14 species of whales, dolphins, and sea turtles also make Komodo National Park their home but Komodo’s islands are also popular trekking destinations and white sandy beaches are beautiful relaxation spots with many tour operators offering overland tours or live aboard diving tours ranging from one day to almost two weeks.
