Information is like a two edged sword. Today we are well informed - TopicsExpress

Information is like a two edged sword. Today we are well informed from newspaper, media and internet. At the click of a button the world is available for our perusal. Considering this we should be more discerning of what is appropriate behavior. We should be able to engineer our life with healthy thoughts. We should be able to create an abundant lifestyle. But its ironical that its not helping us to live a happy and respectful life. Isnt this surprising? The information explosion has actually taken the body mind by shock. The brain which is like a filtering mechanism stores infinite data that we receive daily. It is said the brain receives 2000 bits of information every second. Think of us watching a crime show or paying attention to a catastrophic news item. Though you may not overtly respond to it at that moment, the data has been stored for use later. If we keep exposing ourselves to hazardous information every day our responding to our lifes events could be confused and chaotic. The data that we have been exposed to is then discussed in public places. At kitty parties, offices and on public transport this inappropriate stimuli is enhanced by generalisation. This leads to the mind storing distorted facts possibly deleting positive information but storing negative information. This happens because fear , insecurity and pain can be felt easily. This is done unconsciously by the mind. In the last year since the Nirbhaya Case where the 23 year old had been raped on the Delhi bus, surprisingly the number of rape cases have almost doubled. The non stop coverage of the crime, the constant debate over the crime and the ghastly nature of it has not deterred others . Is it because we are not talking about solutions but repeating the problem. Change or transformation will come when we become solution finders and not problem mongrels! Our body mind will function better when we focus on how and what to do for better living not keep debating on why a minister stuffed a roti in someones mouth. Our brain needs to process problem solving information rather than problem creating ones. What goes in comes out....with its content altered. Do you remember the game Chinese whispers where one person would whisper a statement or song and by the time the information travelled through many heads its content and meaning had drastically altered. Think If the input is dysfunctional, what do you think will be the output? Lets censor ourselves to what we read, hear, see, interpret and discuss for our body mind to stay healthy.
