Information on fire activity in the Eurobodalla Local Government Area. As of 15:30 23rd October 2013 A fire continues to burn in the Deua National Park and Dampier State Forest, 15kms west of Nerrigundah, 20kms northwest of Tinpot and 3km north east of Belowra Valley. The fire is now approximately 775ha’s. Whilst the rain on Monday night significantly reduced fire activity, today’s weather has proved challenging with strong winds, high temperatures and low humidity. Despite the adverse conditions containment lines are continuing to hold the fire to its current size. The high winds have forced all helicopters to stand down until conditions moderate. Residents can expect aircraft activity to resume as soon as conditions allow. Heavy plant including bulldozers and graders are continuing to deal with any weak points and developing a range of fallback options. Residents should remain aware of the situation as conditions can change quickly. There are currently no road closures in this area, however, residents should monitor conditions and check with the RMS to ensure they have the most up to date information. Residents should also be aware that fire vehicles will be travelling back and forth from Staging Areas in Bodalla in the morning and evening. A second fire (Corn Trail Fire) has started in remote country 18km north west of Nelligen in Monga National Park. At this time the fire is approximately 5ha in size. There are currently no assets threatened, however residents should keep themselves informed of any developments. The Corn Trail walking track has been closed as have all trails leading into this area of Monga National Park. Whilst our focus is on dealing with the job in front of us our thoughts are with those who have already suffered losses.
