Injury of the week: MCL pain of the knee Ever experience swelling, pain or tenderness on the inside of your knee? The medial collateral ligament (MCL) is on the inside of the knee and connects the bottom of the thighbone (femur) to the top of the shinbone (tibia) and keeps the knee from bending inward. How can the MCL be injured? During various activities such as bending, twisting, jumping or sudden stop and go movements. Pictured below is one of the many stretches to help with your knee pain. The Adductor Stretch (For inner thigh muscles) Lie on your back with the strap wrapped around one foot. Hold the end of the strap in the same hand and gently guide the leg out and away until a stretch is felt on the inside of the leg. Be sure to rest, ice and elevate the knee to help reduce inflammation!
