Insecurity makes us go out of our way to do things for others, - TopicsExpress

Insecurity makes us go out of our way to do things for others, with an innate need to please others. Sometimes we do it at the expense of our own well-being, but still cannot please everybody. In fact, nobody can please anybody forever; hence, the continuous effort, endeavor and stress. When, despite our best efforts, others don’t appear to be happy, we consider it our failure and begin to feel guilty, inadequate or not good enough. Such thought process eventually makes us see ourselves as a victim; and the very person we wish to make happy, as a burden. When we equate love with the denial of our own needs, we feel useful, worthy and loved only when we are needed by other people. Thus we end up taking on more than we can handle. Our need to be needed can be so ingrained in our psyche that we fail to set any personal boundaries and continue to give until we feel depleted. This is a form of ‘emotional slavery’.
