Inspirational Pinto ‘pursuing other options’ October 7, 2013News 0Share by Ian Anderson 7th October 2013 Fairfax NZ News Joel Pinto looks like being a one-season wonder at Ngaruawahia United. The coach who guided Ngaruawahia this winter to promotion from Northern League Division One to the Premier Division appears unlikely to be in charge next season. The club is seeking applications for the head coach role for 2013/14, though that doesn’t spell the end of Pinto’s reign. “We’re bound by our consititution to advertise every year, even if we have a coach,” club president Maxine Duffull said. Auckland-based Pinto has been invited to apply and Duffull expects he will, but said the Chilean native “has a few other options as well that he’s pursuing”. Pinto helped transform a useful side into a dominant force in the second half of their season as they stormed through from a mid-table spot to gain the second promotion place behind champions Glenfield Rovers. A side bolstered by imports Federico Marquez, John Irving and Steve Morrison eventually revelled in Pinto’s desire for an attractive style of short-passing, counter-attacking and smart movement off the ball. “He showed the boys a completely different way to play – they played some lovely football this year,” Duffull said. However, Duffull understands Pinto is possibly looking to go overseas and the club’s preference may be for someone closer to home to take over. “It is a bit of a strain to travel down from Auckland. While I think he did only miss two trainings, it does take its toll in the end,” Duffull said. The club already has one reply from a highly-qualified coach, with applications closing on October 25. The club is also inviting applications for coaching and management positions for their Premier Reserves, Waikato A, Federation under-17s and u-15s and women’s Waikato A sides.
