Interested in Green Products and Design? The Department of Chemistry has moved Green Product Design from winter term to fall term this year. This course explores how the integration of green chemistry with product design, journalism and communications and sustainable business practices can be used to design more sustainable consumer products. Students in this course will be inspired to explore the different roles individuals can play in partnership with chemists to design greener products. This course can be used to satisfy the Science group requirement and there are no math pre-reqs. Dr. Julie Haack is inviting students from journalism to join this course. Please feel free to contact her directly if you have any questions about the course ([email protected]). During summer 2010, the UO Green Product Design Network partnered with PopTech to host the first meeting of the Ecomaterials Innovation Lab. The goal of this event was to tap the expertise of a diverse group of leaders in chemistry, policy, product design, communications etc. to take a focused look at next-generation sustainable materials innovation. The video (poptech.org/ecomaterials_lab) captures the spirit of what we will be trying to accomplish during this class. The class meets from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays. If the class is full, please add your name to the waiting list. We typically add up to 20 new students during week of welcome.
