Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas yesterday said the government is not just building houses but “communities” for the urban poor when it granted P334 million seed fund to cover six Metro Manila local government units. Roxas, who is in charge of the relocation of informal settler families living in high-risk areas, said the (relocation) program is not a “one size fits all” solution but a “whole of country approach.” Roxas cited the importance of a bottom-up approach in addressing the needs of stakeholders as materialized in the People’s Plans. “Dahil buong komunidad tayong nandito, ito ay bahagi ng tinatawag ni Pangulong Benigno Aquino na ‘whole of country approach’ -- nakikiisa at nagkakaisa,” Roxas stressed. Recently, the DILG chief signed an agreement with Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada as part of the “One Safe Future” program during the Urban Poor Solidarity Week.
