Iranians pay last respects to Brigadier General Hamid Taghavi during funeral processions in Tehran. Taghavi was fatally wounded by a bullet during an advisory mission at the Iraqi holy city of Samarra by insurgents. Taghavi was an Iranian Arab hailing from Irans Khuzestan province. He was from a family of veterans of the Iraq war (1980-88). His father died during operation Khaybar (1984) whereby Iran successfully captured the Majnoon Islands. His brother departed this world during operation Dawn-8, when Iranians overran the al-Faw Peninsula in 1986. — in Iraq.
