Is My Horses Hyoid Off? We all want our horses to live happy, healthy and pain free lives. Therefore, hyoid assessments are a must. The primary function of the hyoid is to keep the horses tongue centered, but it goes way deeper than that. Maybe your horse has some chronic mouth issues and as much as the dentist tries to get it even, re-centered and rebalanced they arent able to achieve that and end up creating an uneven, wear pattern in the teeth. Well, that is because the hyoid needs to be released first. When you are interacting with them whether it be on the saddle or on the ground do you sometimes have some performance problems going on? Maybe lead changes or the horse is wanting to favor one side versus the other? Maybe the horses lateral flexion is really good on one side, but not so much on the other causing the horse to sometimes refuse to go the other way? These are symptoms of your horses hyoid being off balanced. If these symptoms or conditions sound like your horse click on the link below to learn how to do a Hyoid Assessment.
