Is a cell phone the same things as as sports car? The New York State Government would say, yes. As part of our New York State Exposed series, we looked into the taxes you pay on your cell phone. Did you know NY has the third highest tax rate on cell phone bills? You are paying about 24% in taxes and fees alone on your bill. One of those fees imposed by the government is a luxury tax.
