Is coming to terms with her diagnosis of a grade 1 calf tear 6 days before the Ultra. (Grade 1 is not too bad, thats what Im telling myself) As my lovely sports therapist Caroline Holmes Clark stated if it was anyone else we would be starting a 6 week rehab programme, but you arent normal. Thanks Caroline for seeing me today and I hope I can get more than 10 miles out of the leg, thank you Keith Gladstone for your advice and support. I am trying to mentally prepare not to run it but it keeps being punched in the nose by you can frickin do it ;) So off I go to stretch, strengthen, reduce acidy foods and get some rest to give myself the best chance to start and finish in one piece. Me, of all people should know the symptoms of overtraining, so even if you feel you could currently fight The Worlds Strongest Man (something I think about often), be aware of the symptoms: Insomina Increased DOMs (delayed onset muscular soreness) Short fused Diminished powers of endurance, strength, speed - loss of sparkle Heavy legs, limbs Increased illnesses Leaving a workout feeling exhausted and not energised. Rest is important as well.
