Is there a Foreign Affairs Authentication of Document Service office in Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver or Montreal? This is a question that we hear almost daily from our clients, and with more companies outside Ottawa offering the service it has added some confusion. To help clarify there is only one Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD) Authentication and Service of Documents Section (JLAC) office in Canada and it is located here in Ottawa close to our office. Although some of the provinces do have authentication of document offices unfortunately their validation on a document will not be accepted at most of the foreign embassies or consulates. In Alberta it is the Official Documents and Appointments Branch of Alberta Justice. For Quebec Certificats de qualité et d’authenticité will be issued by the Chambre des notaires du Québec located in Montreal. What if I do not live in Ottawa and need my document authenticated by Foreign Affairs Canada? You have a few choices, you can use the service by mail but it can take between 15-25 business days until you receive it back in the mail. If using this method please note that due to the amount of requests received by Foreign Affairs they cannot confirm that they have received or completed your request until 15 business days have passed.
