Is there a Foreign Affairs Authentication of Document Service - TopicsExpress

Is there a Foreign Affairs Authentication of Document Service office in Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver or Montreal? This is a question that we hear almost daily from our clients, and with more companies outside Ottawa offering the service it has added some confusion. To help clarify there is only one Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD) Authentication and Service of Documents Section (JLAC) office in Canada and it is located here in Ottawa close to our office. Although some of the provinces do have authentication of document offices unfortunately their validation on a document will not be accepted at most of the foreign embassies or consulates. As is the case for most countries your document will require the Foreign Affairs Canada authentication stamp before being accepted for Legalization, depending on the country this may also be called Attestation or Apostille. In rare cases where a country would require a provincial authentication stamp one of our experienced agents will assist by confirming this with you. As an example of some of the document authentication provincial offices in the Province of Ontario the Official Document Services ODS is responsible for the Certification of Authentication. In Alberta it is the Official Documents and Appointments Branch of Alberta Justice. For the Province of British Colombia the authentication of documents is managed by the Ministry of Justice Order in Council (OIC) Administration Office in Victoria. For Quebec Certificats de qualité et d’authenticité will be issued by the Chambre des notaires du Québec located in Montreal. What if I do not live in Ottawa and need my document authenticated by Foreign Affairs Canada? You have a few choices, you can use the service by mail but it can take between 15-25 business days until you receive it back in the mail. If using this method please note that due to the amount of requests received by Foreign Affairs they cannot confirm that they have received or completed your request until 15 business days have passed. If there are any issues with your document request this will add extra time and expense, so to help you with this see our authentication of document requirements page to confirm you have the correct document. One other important thing to remember if you are currently outside of Canada is that they cannot return your document by international courier so you will need to make other arrangements. After considering these factors it’s no surprise why our clients trust us with their important international business. Further recognizing the need, Foreign Affairs Canada recommends if you require quicker service or assistance to successfully complete the process you should hire an authentication and legalization service. As Canada’s first Authentication and Legalization service we have helped people have their documents accepted in countries like China, Colombia, Mexico, Netherlands, Russia, UAE, Qatar, Iraq, Kuwait, Spain, United States ask us about your country.
