Is there such thing as NO LYE SOAP? Here it is...NO LYE, NO SOAP. What exactly is soap? Soap is an alkali (like sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide) combined with fats, through a reaction called saponification to give you, SOAP. By the very definition of soap, you cannot have soap without lye. No lye, and youve just got a bucket of fat! Every fat requires a certain amount of lye to turn it into soap, and the percentage of lye depends on the fats used; virgin coconut oil, olive oil, animal fat, etc....or BUTTERs. Jemimas Soap is 100% vegan and 100% natural, and we prefer to use cocoa butter, shea butter, mango butter, etc...to the other vegetable oils. Superfatting is using more fat than the lye that can convert into soap, and this prevents the presence of any excess lye in the finished bar. Jemimas Soap dares to go beyond the normal standard of 5-10% superfatting in order to claim our soap to be all-natural, and to give you a rich bar of soap! We also make sure our soaps go through a full curing period before they are ready for sale! Some people claim that they dont use lye in making soap, because they makes soap with melt and pour soap base (like those in art & craft centers). That merely refers to the fact that they are not actually adding the lye to the mixture themselves. The other possible method is the rebatching method where they melt soap flakes as a base to create their own soaps. Jemimas Soap always make our soaps from scratch, because we take responsibility for what goes into our soaps! And of course, some people just dont mention lye (sodium hydroxide) in their soap labels, or use other names for it, to prevent any questioning by consumers. We believe in educating our customers instead of diverting the matter. You can trust Jemimas Soap. We are humbled to announce that our youngest consumers are newly-borned babies, whose parents refuse to use chemicals and fragrances on their precious ones! Happy showering!
