Islam is a peaceful religion is a tired and unhelpful response to the inhumanly barbaric acts of violence perpetrated by ISIS, the Taliban, Boko Haram and co. A logical person knows that most Muslims are peace-loving people. This statement, however, is only an attempt to assuage the intolerance and fears of Non-Muslims. It does nothing to tackle the problem. It is abundantly clear that the future of Jihadism lies with the tens of thousands of disillusioned, young people who are increasingly inspired by the brutality of overzealous extremists in looking to channel their anger and lunacy though genocidal violence. Its about time political and religious Muslim leaders openly and strongly condemn the atrocities committed by Islamic insurgencies. As ISIS buries alive, decapitates and hacks to death 4000 Christians, Kurds, Yazidis and Sharia Muslims in Syria and Iraq per month, Muslim leaders remain circumspect. The timid, reticent responses issued thus far are simply inadequate and frankly, deeply concerning. For years, the Pakistan Government has treated terrorists as cardinal assets and sympathized with their cause. Sadly, 145 people, predominantly children, had to lose their lives in a savage school massacre before the Pakistan Government openly condemned the Taliban. If the Muslim world can stand in solidarity with Palestine, it can stand against Jihadism with equal fortitude. After all, these abhorrent acts of violence are as much an attack on Islam as they against those whose blood litters the streets of Kobani to Peshawar and back.
