Disappointing Actions from Sinn Fein Mar Bushmills Event Statement by TUV Councillor Sharon McKillop: “It is a matter of regret that the Sinn Fein chair of Moyle Council chose to make what should have been an event for everyone on Saturday controversial. “On Friday afternoon Bushmills Residents and Environmental Forum made it clear to the council that they had withdrawn all support for the event due to the fact that Sinn Fein were taking part and they felt that this would harm community relations. Given the intolerance of Republicans towards all things Unionist and Loyalist – be that with the Union Flag in Belfast or Loyal Order parades in Rasharkin – I can understand those sentiments. “Sinn Fein have done everything in their power to antagonise and damage community relations. They cannot do that all the time and then expect everyone to be happy about one of their members unveiling a sculpture made by the local community. “I spoke to the Bushmills Residents and Environmental Forum and they made it clear on Saturday morning that the group simply wanted the chairwoman to take a back seat at the event. I conveyed that message to the Bushmills Forum and this was sent to other councilors. It is unfortunate that Sinn Fein chose to disregard the views of those who were actually involved in the construction of the sculpture.”
